Reliance ADAG's Big Music & Home Entertainment has launched its operations in the Eastern region from December 27, 2007. The company plans to make its presence felt in the home entertainment and music industry in this region and also plans to capture a significant market share in the film and non-film music segments.
The company has an impressive line-up of music releases featuring popular established Bangla bands such as Chandrabindoo, Moruddyan, Lakhichara, and newer ones like IBN Batuta, Tatar and Cromus. It will also include other genres like Rabindra Sangeet, kirtan, folk and Bengali film music.
Big Music & Home Entertainment has signed up Bengali films, both new and old, like 'Bow Barracks Forever', 'Nil Rajar Deshe', 'Bancharamer Baagan', and 'Akaler Sandhane' among others. It has also built up a bank of timeless Satyajit Ray and Uttam Kumar classics. Their latest includes the much awaited 'Kailashe Kelenkari', a whodunnit written by Satyajit Ray and directed by Sandeep Ray.
Kulmeet Makkar, CEO, Big Music & Home Entertainment, said, "We are making significant investments in reviving the slowed down music business by promoting local artistes and content in digital space as well as through managing artistes and their career through live performances and events." He further said that the company had launched the Kolkata chapter "to mark the beginning of what we dream to be a fulfilling experience."
Big Music & Home Entertainment is also looking at a 50 per cent market share of the Rs 40 crore Bengali home video market. About 70 Bengali movies are released every year and are produced with a budget of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore per movie.
